Choosing the correct Deutsch terminal or contact starts with the connector housing. First identify the connector family and contact size, then determine whether the housing requires a pin or socket contact and match the exact terminal to the wire used in the harness.
Contact size and wire gauge are separate specifications. A Size 16 contact, for example, does not automatically mean 16 AWG wire. Different terminals within the same nominal contact size can support different conductor ranges, constructions and plating options.
Deutsch Pin Contacts
Pin contacts form the male electrical contact side of a compatible connector pair. The housing part number and configuration determine whether pin contacts are required.
When selecting a pin terminal, confirm the contact size, wire range and connector-family compatibility rather than relying only on the terminal's appearance.
Deutsch Socket Contacts
Socket contacts form the complementary electrical contact side of the mating connector. As with pin terminals, the exact socket contact needs to match the housing contact size and the wire being terminated.
For commonly encountered contact-number families, 0460 is associated with pin contacts and 0462 with socket contacts. Always verify the complete terminal part number before ordering.
